Taking the Hood by Air

Defining a new elitist street sensibility, founder and creative director Shayne Oliver is taking his clothing brand, Hood by Air, into the future.

Oliver started out in early ‘06 by selling t-shirts at the aNYthing store. He later met Raul Lopez, now the brand’s design advisor, and created a small Spring ‘07 collection of split color tees given out to their closest friends.

Hood by Air is a unisex sportswear brand where modern day street silhouettes clash with high end detailing. The duo thrives to create clothes that “capture a street futurism filled with new ideas and takes on what the streets are really into. A vision that this street sensibility is actually an elitism opposed to the primary beliefs that ‘hood’ is a negative low class way of living.”

Their latest collection has expanded beyond t-shirts and now includes striped batwing sweatshirts, shiny quilted jackets, and pieced together tanks. The brand stresses individuality and evolution through casual classic pieces with modern twists, fashioned with an eye on the future.

Hood by Air has already won fans in Kanye West and Curtains, V.I.P. Be on the look out for their online store for diffusion line, Hood Classics, coming soon.

Available at Seven New York and Oak.
