M.I.A. isn’t the only talented one in the family. Sister Kali Arulpragasam, 33, Creative Director and Designer explores her creativity through jewelry and accessory design, launching her own brand “Super Fertile” just 16 months ago.
Central Saint Martins grad Arulpragasam’s most recent collection, “Endangered Species”, features large powerful endangered animals’ heads mounted on the side of her latest exploration, chunky 3 finger rings. Animals are chosen carefully for their intimidating strength and presence. Striking horns (rhinos, stags, bulls) are easily spotted from across the room as individual attributes are highlighted by detailed hand crafting. To express the underlying seriousness and irony in these animals’ fragility, discoloration is intentional. Copper seeps through the silver or gold plating while still keeping the beauty of the piece.
Super Fertile employs modern crafting skills and technologies using semi precious materials such as copper, perspex and glass with the intent to bring awareness to world issues. Fans include M.I.A (Rhino Rings featured in the new Jimmy video), Spankrock, and the Prince of Brunei.

ON A SIDE NOTE
We wrote about OWN, the new men’s Japanese Magazine written in English, months ago, hot off the press is their issue no. 4. With this release, OWN also launches OWN Channel, bridging fashion from around the world with interviews, store features and in-depth coverage of today’s foremost brands and designers. OWN Channel’s first episode focuses on Hikaru Otani, director of the Japanese brand Xescape, with live and direct Japanese street snaps. Future episodes will broadcasting from New York, L.A. and beyond.
