Spring is the time for breakups and cleaning so we found this designer’s home sprucing story ironically befitting.
When San Diego-born Shanan Campanaro broke up with her boyfriend she found herself with sole custody of an apartment in need of a complete renovation. Campanaro started down the standard route of getting new furniture and applying fresh coats of paint before deciding to add a more personal touch by creating her own wallpaper. After finding a local printer that used archival ink on waterproof washable vinyl she put her Central Saint Martins education to work.
The initial experiment was a success and, after doing a well-received wallpaper design for Travessia, Campanaro began taking small snippets of her paintings to make patterns. She whittled hundreds of ideas down to the 14 available in her collection.
Everything is customizable, from the colors to the scale, and the paper is made to fit the space. The patterns look Victorian from afar but a closer look reveals the brushstrokes, watermarks, and pen details from Campanaro’s drawings, giving even the most heartless NYC apartment a human touch.
