The Sugarhead Show

Female-owned Sugarhead Quarters boutique in Manhattan’s Lower East Side has been staking their claim in the community since they opened in 2004. In celebration of their 3-year anniversary, SHQ will host a unique art exhibition bringing together their friends and contemporaries- artists, designers, boutiques and media.

Owned by sisters Carol and Phina Nakamoto, SHQ has established itself as both a neighborhood staple and shopping destination in the heart of the LES. The boutique stocks a selection of men’s and women’s streetwear, art, music, and accessories brands, some of which have been invited to participate in the shop’s anniversary art exhibit. Participants were each presented with a “blank” oil painted canvas depicting a Bob Ross style landscape and given the direction to take every liberty to make it their own, no boundaries.

The show will be displayed at the store beginning October 25th throughout the holiday season. The pieces contributed to the show by SHQ’s favorite artists will be sold with the opportunity to contribute a portion of sales to Grand Street Settlement (for the neighborhood’s “in-need residents”), SHQ will match all artists’ contributions.

Close to 60 participants from around the world have been assembled, many of whom will be in attendance for the opening including Kid Acne, Dscreet, Kid Robot, Santa Inoue, Alife Rivington Club, 10 Deep, Mishka, and many more. Montana Paint has provided the artists with paint and markers as well as contributed gifts.

Sugarhead Quarters’ 3 Year Anniversary Art Exhibit and Party will take place on Thursday October 25, 2007 at their 174 Rivington Street storefront. Click flyer for RSVP and more info.
