PowerHouse Arena, in conjuncton with the publication of powerHouse Magazine #3, is studying capitalism in action with “The Hustle.” The exhibit is about the art of selling… anything. Selling sex, selling drugs, selling clothes, selling souls, selling dreams, selling schemes, selling anything. The powerHouse Arena will be transformed into a Hustler Wall of Fame with a broad selection of artists contributing their vision of this iconic figure in America culture.
PowerHouse Arena is presenting this exhibit with Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine, the seminal publication thas has covered the world of underground contemporary art for 14 years. The exhibit contains works by artists commenting on cultural characters. Be sure to chek out Keiji Ando and Luke Behrends on Dick Cheney, Ron English on Ronald McDonald, and Boogie on Chris Nieratko. The opening reception will feature Bronx DJ Michael “Emz” Greene spinning, a mural by graffiti artist HOST18, and drinks from Union Beer.
powerHouse Magazine showcases artists and writers who share a collective vision about culture and its place in the world. Whether collaborating with the establishment or conspiring with the counterculture, the magazine provides dynamic inspiration and peaceful meditation of high and low culture alike—because who we are and what we do is based on our passion for exploring truth and beauty, evoking emotion and excitement, and provoking thought and conversation.

Tomorrow, May 29th: The Gap starts an exhibit of its Artist Editions T-shirts at Bryant Park. In partnership with the Whitney Museum of American Art and Art Production Fund, the Gap has created 13 limited edition t-shirts designed by Chuck Close, Jeff Koons, Marilyn Minter, Kiki Smith, Cai Guo-Qiang, Barbara Kruger, Ashley Bickerton, Kenny Scharf, Glenn Ligon, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Kerry James Marshall, Hanna Liden and Sarah Sze. Visit the exhibit through June 4th and hit up your local Gap store for some wearable art.
