What I love about traveling is all the yummy food I get to consume, living in uganda I definitely ate my share of the local cuisine. Uganda cuisine consists of traditional cooking infused with many different cultural influences like english, arab, and indian which is perdomiant in the Ugandan cuisine. Most dishes include a sauce, or a stew or groundnuts, beans, or meat. Varying from upper to lower class the meal varies, also the differences in region. Northern uganda’s starch will be millet called ‘Ugali’, while in the south the starch will be mashed plantain ‘Matoke’, also included irish potato and rice mostly eaten in the west. Chapati an asian flatbread is also eaten in many meals.

I find myself as of late thinking more and more about the things I leave behind. Mostly, I think about Africa. The endless homesickness takes over my thoughts, day dreams, and dreams to no end. In Africa, the waters are deep, dark and secret, the sky is vast and ungraspable…come to think of it Africa is love itself. Like love, Africa is oceans, stars, worlds, and the almighty enigmatic universe.
Miriam Makeba aka Mama Africa was a South African singer and activist. Check out her magnificent appearance in the anti-apartheid film ‘Come Back, Africa’. INTO YAM- Miriam Makeba

I’ve been traveling around South Africa…I went to Cape Town one of the most amazing cities I’ve been to yet. The image of the romantic sunsets below is located at Cape Point situated at the Table Mountain National park. Cape Point is where intermingling of the cold Atlantic ocean and warm Indian Ocean meet.

The 22ct gold iPhone 3G Diamonds is truly something to behold in the world of luxury. Stuart Hughes has created an accessory business hailing out of Liverpool, England. Stuart Huges and his wife Katherine, indeed have a vision, and that is luxury and technology should be one and the same. The solid gold iPhone is the ultimate creation of this vision; it is the epitome of luxury embracing technology. What will this phone cost you ? The gold iPhone sits at an ostentatious price of $35,000.
It took four expert craftsmen, including Stuart Hughes of detailed intricate work to re-create and tailor the body of the iPhone in solid gold. All of which was started and completed by hand with 53 diamonds niched in Apple logo. If you may fancy something other than gold, there is the Diamond incrusted iPhone which includes all 440 individually set stones, for $15,000 half that of its gold counterpart.

I have not seen much original talented up and coming artist on the scene today, however, one individual strikes my attention. Cassi Gibson, she is my twin sister, my best friend, and most of all an inspiring photographer. Her photos are memoirs of her life travels in Africa, the West Indies and other beautiful far away places. “I have fallen in love with paradise”. She fills the void of her homesickness through photography, it is remedial for her. The message in Cassi’s work is moving and sensitive “The longing… ‘Saudades’, Saudade is the reminiscence of feelings, experiences, places or events that once brought happiness and well-being, which now triggers the senses and makes one live again. Although this message is unique and personal, her photos touch all who experience her work.

Emeka Alams is the brains behind the anticipated GOLD COAST TRADING CO line, its Emekas second time around designing. He is refreshed and more creative than ever given the new state of affairs. Emeka is truly enjoying designing on his own terms pondering up fresh innovative concepts and designs inspired from the continent he calls home…Africa. The line was created to ease his homesickness for Africa. “Once you’ve been somewhere so real you can’t go back to phony”, for Emeka Gold Coast Trading co is a creative outlet, a way to revisit Africa on a daily basis. Every design holds a nostalgic connotation, inspired by smell, taste, and sight from his experiences in Africa, with a touch of his current surroundings wherever he may be.
The line will consist of casual wear for women and men, like cardigan sweaters, jackets and special Afro design inspired tee shirts. This isn’t the typical outlandishly colorful afro centric wear one would usually see, “I wanted to focus on a colors and prints but with simplicity and functionality foremost in mind.” Therefore resulting in a practical high end relaxed line, that is Gold Coast Trading Co.

Laura Lombardi is one of my best friends. She is amazingly creative and inspiring woman. She has launched her line of jewelry. Her work is timeless, classic yet modern craftsman ship. Laura draws inspiration from her personal history, the “grit and glamour of NYC” and her Italian roots from Florence which she spent many summers growing up. Laura also creates art; she has always been strongly influenced by fine arts but yet still keeps her personal style within her artwork. The transition from art to jewelry was natural for her.
Laura strives to “create work that transcends specific styles and holds
appeal for a wide range of people”. Her design is refreshingly clean and simple. The bulk of her jewelry comes from vintage, antiqued materials which is quite special. “I want to create things that are timeless, that are verging on romantic but maintain a soft edge. The pieces are sometimes sweet, sentimental, and a little dark. They can be dressy, whilst remaining raw and pared down, which makes them really wearable.”
