The Darjeeling Elephant

Since 2002 India-born and New York-bred designer Waris, who has appeared in films at the requests of Wes Anderson and Spike Lee, has been creating his elegant and street-ready jewelry line and has recently found a way to fuse it with his other love of acting.

House of Waris pieces offer a tough glamour but with a little mysticism in its selected charms, appropriate for both men and women. Skulls, snakes, keys, and other icons hang on simple chains. Sleek brass knuckle-like rings emphasize geometry instead of gems. The pieces are handmade in Rome and India so that no two are identical.

In Waris’ most recent role in “The Darjeeling Limited” (Wes Anderson film starring Owen Wilson and Adrien Brody) releasing this weekend,  he wears his own creation Elephant Pin raising (at-risk of extinction) awareness of the beloved mammal. Bill Murray, Angelica Huston, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, Roman Coppola and Waris all wore the House of Waris “Elephant Pin” in support at the movie’s premiere in New York last week.

House of Waris has also made the lucky Elephant pin available to us online. All proceeds going to The Elephant Family charity, whose crusade is to help protect Asian elephants from extinction.
$75 on Yoox.com

House of Waris is currently available at: Bergdorf Goodman (New York), Colette (Paris), Maxfield (Los Angeles), Loveless (Tokyo).
