Dynamic through its graphic and silhouette combinations, Cavern focuses primarily on hand-drawn art and for 2008 has expanded their collection to include a wide range of apparel.
Cavern is the ongoing collaboration of ideas between Los Angeles based artists, Adam Tullie and Angeline Rivas. The line was born in 2005, some time after Tullie ditched art school to travel throughout Europe and make music. Through his exploration of organic form and meticulous line work his art has become suitable for textiles, working in a “painterly nature with contrasting linear formation.” Tullie’s partner, Otis fashion design major, Angeline Rivas’ intensely detailed drawings are rendered with fine pen strokes creating a highly stylized representation of various subjects. The majority of drawing included in the collection is executed in ballpoint pen, and several works have taken up to one month to complete.
Without being swayed by market trends, Cavern strives to successfully engage classic charm with an innovative twist of visual information using materials of the highest quality available.
If you’re a Beck fan you might have already seen some of Tullie’s work included in his latest album insert, The Information, or on shirt designs for a 2007 Japanese Tour. The Cavern duo recently completed a collaboration project with Devendra Banhart on items that are currently being sold on his world tour. Kanye West is also a fan of the hand drawn graphics.
Cavern is available at Odin and Oak in New York, Fred Segal Man and Kin in Los Angeles, TNT and Reborn in Canada, & Beams and Ships in Japan. If you’re attending next week’s Capsule show, make sure to stop by their booth.
