Dinomania

Everything old is new again so we’re looking to prehistory to find the next big bang.

As part of a bi-weekly art series boutique cum gallery Barometer is presenting “Dinosaur Exhibition,” a group show about dinosaurs where they will transform the gallery into a prehistoric wonderland by producing a large group dino-rama and covering the floor and ceiling in faux fossils and ferns.

Individual works include such visual phenomena as a “Magic Eye” drawing by Christopher Connolly and M.C. Escher-style dinosaur tessellations by Stephen Lowery. Saturday morning cartoons influence the dino renderings of the young RISD alum Patrick J. Campbell, working in a palette of coral pink and swamp green in his shadow-box paintings. The Barometer owners are in on the presentation as well, with Jenna Wainwright creating a line of “Dinodermy Jewelry,” a miniature world of taxidermy combining plastic toy dinosaurs with sterling silver, brass, and teak plaques, and Anna Studebaker assembling a collection of vintage dinosaur-themed curios.
