Welcome to the first installation of a monthly section we call HAIL MARY! As some of you might detest this section, we’re hoping that most of you love it. We’ve compiled a list of lady New Yorkers in the fashion, editorial and music businesses that crossover into what we consider the “downtown” scene. Yes, we know that New York City is a big place and there are lots of circles to run in but as most of you would agree, if you’re making some noise in this city, you WILL get noticed by people in circles outside your norm. The cliques in New York are more tightly intertwined than one might think not having lived here. That being said, we wrote down the names of all the women we could think of that we admire! Key word folks, ADMIRE! These women are doing their thing and paving their own way in their respective fields.
We feel these hard-working women deserve some shine!
Here’s how it works:
In order to qualify we have only one rule: You must be a New York resident for at least 3 years. Hey, you gotta know the runnings. Doesn’t seem like much of a prerequisite but you’d be surprise at how many women we had on our brainstorming list that were disqualified because of it. Each of our panel members gave each of the “candidates” a score from 1-10 in four different criteria. In the end, we each took the sum of the numbers then averaged the scores. Possible highest score, 40.
Here are the criteria:
1. Job/Occupation
2. Personal Style
3. Personality/Friendliness
4. Overall Admiration
Depending on the events that take place over the course of the next month the qualifying ladies could move up or down on the list. We’ll be tracking their movement each month. Also, check back for the Confessional on Monday when we turn the spotlight on one of our Hail Mary listers.
