Bang! Vroom! Wowch!

We love our uniform of t-shirt and jeans! It’s easy and cute and sexy- depending on which jeans we choose on any given day, heels or no heels? We’ve been sportin’ it more frequently during these last couple months since it’s been brick (and we’ve been lazy), but have to admit, our fool-proof kit is gettin’ a little stale and could use a little pick-me-up. Enter 30-year olds, Max Cattaneo and Matt Shankman. Wowch!

That’s the name of their kick-ass t-shirt line. It’s the answer to our boring basics and tired vintage tees. This handsome duo (I haven’t met them but so I’ve heard) met around age 7 in Columbus, Ohio, started cutting and reworking heat transfer graphics for t-shirts in ‘01, then moved themselves and their headquarters to New York a couple years later. In the last few seasons they’ve been concocting their own graphic elements and creating some offbeat and peculiar artwork. The graphics heavily consist of bizarre morphed animal heads, mystical fantasy scenes with rainbows and unicorns, and several portrayals of the feline species.

Already popular in the music world, Wowch has been spotted on bands like The Rapture, DFA records, Beck, and Vhs or Beta (Max was The Rapture’s merch guy for a few years getting support from the friends he’d made on tour), and we’re feeling like the brand is just about to reach their tipping point. Japan, Europe, and Australia have been starting to see more of them although they really are in a category by themselves when it comes to the American market.

“We’re tough to categorize. We dont really fall into that streetwear/skater/all-over print category and yet we’re also too bizarre to work well in the highest end boutique $100 t-shirt market either.” Nicely put… maybe THAT’S why we like you!

Wowch is available at I Heart, Ghostown, and Autumn Skateshop. Check their website for more.
